MEETING ON STAGE
The first time Isotone studio met the band N/UM was in 2022, at the music and digital art Mutek festival. Isotone was in charge of immersive visuals for their live performance in the dome of the Society for Arts and Technology in Montreal. A fully improvised audiovisual performance emerged, and from this unique experience, a strong connection was forged between the two entities. A few months later, N/UM came back to Isotone and wanted to pursue the collaboration to create the video clip of their next EP, Levers of History.
LIVE PERFORMANCE FULLY IMPROVISED
N/UM have come to be regarded as modern pioneers of electronic live music with their fully improvised live sets, featuring the most classic of analog electronic instruments available combined with vocals, modular synths and guitar for a truly genre-bending experience. Each performance or recording by N/UM is unique and improvised, with no pre-composed songs, no plan or structure agreed upon. The group unites three longtime friends who have always shared a deep passion for electronic music. Isotone invited N/UM for a audiovisual performance in october 2023, in the dome again, to once again, create and play all together.
A COMMON CREATIVE PROCESS
N/UM and Isotone Studio embrace the same creative process of improvisation as a driving force behind their work. The studio immerses itself in the rhythms of the live band, unleashing its imagination to visually capture and enhance these captivating sounds through original and minimalist creations.
